Folding and Hemming
Folding and hemming are normally completed in two stages. The sheet edge is first pre-bent and then repositioned for the second forming step.

If a controlled gap remains between the two surfaces, the result is a folded edge. If both surfaces are pressed completely together, the result is a hemmed edge.

Process Considerations

  • Pre-bending angle
  • Hemming pressure
  • Tooling structure
  • Machine open height
  • Space for secondary positioning
Typical Functions

  • Strengthening sheet edges
  • Removing exposed sharp edges
  • Forming hooks or connecting structures
  • Improving the appearance of enclosure edges
